But the good news is that there are practical steps you can take to make yourself feel better and healthier as you get older. Your body has a natural way to age and that differs from person to person, but you must recognize that this is also your responsibility to maintain your health and stay away from bad habits. Staying healthy is a full time job!
Do not delay taking care of your health. When you are young, it is easy to enjoy life and do whatever you like. But in order to avoid a major health crisis and live happy through your golden years you must pay attention to your health now.

You have probably have heard it before, but exercising is an integral part of great health. Nowadays, with technological improvements everywhere we tend to not exercise as much as we should. However, doctors recommend that you exercise at least 30 minutes a day. It is essential to keep your weight down, strengthen your heart with cardio workouts, maintain lung capacity, etc. If you think that exercising is too boring then get a friend to work out with you. Try to find exercises that you both enjoy and it will become easy and enjoyable once you get used to it.
Make sure your diet stays healthy as well. Eat foods that are rich in fiber, have low fat, and reduced sugar. Have more fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid any soft drinks, and alcohol. If you smoke, quit smoking immediately.
It's important to pay attention to you mental and emotional health as well. It is great if you have a lot of friends or large extended family. This will help keeping you from feeling alone and hopeless. If you don't have friends, however, there are plenty of ways to get in touch with more people. Consider volunteering for something that you really enjoy doing. Take a new class. It can be cooking or sewing or diving - whatever seems interesting and exciting. Once you have a sense of purpose and fulfillment, it will provide you with more emotional stability and great mood, which in turn will contribute significantly to your overall health.

Keep a close eye on your health. Watch out for any health issues. Don't neglect or delay a doctor's visit, especially when you are over 50 years old. Make sure to take all the necessary tests during your yearly checkups. Do not wait to change your bad habits. Make the necessary changes now. Exercise, keep a healthy diet and be positive. Follow the healthy habits and one day you may join the VIP club of centenarians, too!
