When our skin is over stretched it affects the production and normal function of collagen and elastin which results in the stretch marks in various parts of the body such as bikini area, thighs, breasts, hands, stomach, hips and so on. As the skin stretches it gets thinner and uneven. Blood vessels start showing through the thin layer of skin, which results in the appearance of visible marks. Stretch marks are not unique to women and men can suffer from them as well.
For pregnant women, stretch marks may become visible on the abdomen during the second half of their pregnancy. Mother's body experience rapid change and the skin has to stretch to accommodate the growing child. Your collagen strength may influence the appearance and the intensity of the stretch marks. Weaker collagen will produce marks that are more visible. The color of the skin may play a role too.
