I know that i'm not and for good reason. i started today. a week late. and it started with vengeance. feeling like crap.  I do though would like to get something that will make it not be so darn much all at once. cause it started today and it was like i hit  a wall. passed out tired like i took a med that knocked me out. pain so bad that motrin wouldnt work. and having to go to the rest room every 2 hours.

Jennifer,I think it's good news that it started on its own and no meds are required. I think you should ask your dr to put you on some birth control pills to help you regulate your cycle. And, have you ever been checked for PCOS? In case you do have PCOS, there is a drug "Glucophage" or "Metformin" ( the generic version of it), which helps to regulate a cycle. In this case, please, pay YOUR attention that your dr must order a glucose tolerance test before prescribing this drug. In fact, he might skip it, and you may start experiencing very dangerous side effects. I myself was on metformin for several months due to very irregular periods.

Jennifer, are you actually trying to get pregnant or you were just concerned about your irregular period?

both actually. but i already talked to my obgyn today and she said that i should put off getting pregnant for a while and get the Mirena implant to regulate my periods and once that happens then by then if i want to have kids she can take it out and i can try or keep it in and wait till we are ready.

Be careful, and think twice before you agree. Make sure your doc has no personal interest in your positive decision regarding Mirena. Of course, nobody knows how your body will accept it, but... There is a good chance that you will experience even more troubles with your periods when it is removed! Especially in the case of PCOS. Are you sure you are free of PCOS, have you been examined for it? If you are not sure in anything, please, go and see another obgyn for the "second opinion". In Mirena case, even very regular past periods usually become very irregular with heavy clotting, when it is removed. I would definitely ask another OBGyn what she thinks of your case and Mirena, before doing it.

Official statement: "
Mirena is recommended for women who have had at least one child"

Stay away from Mirena!!! Did you know that ObGyns get paid for every Mirena they insert and have to pay it back when patients want it removed? Surgical removal is usually required to take it out of your body? Google it if you have never heard about it.

Sorry for interruption! I believe that I have to make a remark here too. Jennifer, you have to know that:
1. In some States there are special laws against Mirena. For example, in RI you are not allowed to "install" it if you are 19 or younger and have no children yet;
2. IUD can become embedded in the uterus - in that case a surgery is needed to remove it!
3. Your med. insurance can refuse to cover it
4. If something goes wrong, like in #2, you will have surgery, tonns of prescribed medication to take in, lots of pain, medical bills etc.I just want to warn you like other people have done!
